〈チーム・ヨーロッパ〉は日曜日を7-5のリードで始めた。レーバー・カップの勝ち点のシステムは、金曜日は1勝が1点、土曜日は1勝が2点、日曜日の1ダブルスと3シングルスの各勝利は3点を持つといった具合に尻上がりにポイントが増える方式となっている。

　ナダルはこの日、フェデラーと組んでのダブルス、そして最初のシングルスの双方をプレーすることになっていた。しかし彼は手に炎症を起こしたためプレー不可能となり、〈チーム・ヨーロッパ〉のラインナップに大きな支障が生じることなった。

　まず、イズナーとダブルスペシャリストであるジャック・ソック（アメリカ）のペアが、フェデラー／ステファノス・チチパス（ギリシャ）を5-7 6-4 [10-8]で倒し、シングルスでナダルの代役となった世界ランク5位のドミニク・ティーム（オーストリア）は5-7 7-6 (3) [5-10]でテイラー・フリッツ（アメリカ）に敗れた。双方の試合が、第3セットの代わりとなるスーパータイブレークの末に決まるという接戦になった。

　フリッツは、最初プレーする予定だったニック・キリオス（オーストラリア）の代役だった。キリオスは土曜日にシングルスとダブルスの計2試合をプレーしたあと、ナダル同様に出場を取り消し、入れ替えられた。

　イズナーとソックは、レーバー・カップでのダブルスの戦績を3戦全勝とした。ティームを倒す番狂わせに成功した30位のフリッツは試合後、「これは僕のキャリアで最大の勝利のひとつだ」と喜びを隠さなかった。
